29.12.2009
reached school at 10am. Initial plan was to take level 4 for 2 sessions- one in the morning and one at afternoon. But when we reached there, realised there was only one class, again! Then we were told that it's school holiday, cos the kids had finished their exams! Another surprise, yet again! After some consideration, we decided to merge the 2 lessons so that the kids don't have to come back after lunch. That's like the nth time we changed our plan!

Today's lesson was conducted by wendy.
Topic- feelings and actions
Class- level 4
Learnt our lesson 2 days ago, so we started introducing ourselves in English.
Activity: went through different feelings such as happy, sad, angry, hungry, sleepy, tired. For better understanding, we use body language to demonstrate. The resort manager and marketing director did quite some translations. Asked some students to come to the front to demonstrate while the rest guessed. Also taught them words which are related to the feelings,e.g. Laugh, cry, shout, eat etc. The kids were then given the feelings flashcards to match with the action flashcards stuck on the blackboard, and vice versa. There was this boy in particular who was very smart. He volunteered to change some of the wrong answers after his friends had done the activity. Then we tried to teach them "if you are happy and you know it". Realised the words could be too difficult for them to follow. So eventually decided to only focus on the feeling words like "happy" and "angry" and the actions such "clap your hands" and "stamp your feet".

Then we proceed to the field outside to play games! Using the words learnt, we play "Simon says". They may not seem to understand how the game is played. So they were looking at one of us and doing the same things. Nevertheless, we hope the words and actions applied in the game gave them some learning experience. Also, taught them "as we walk to the left..." and played the modified game of "trees and squirrel" (on the spot, we changed to "trees and cat"!!). "as we walk to the left.." was an interactive dance. Had some problem making them change partners who were next to them, esp if it's a girl-boy partnership. Hahahha... So we just let them change partners as they wished! Hahahha... The most important thing was to have fun!The same thing happened for "trees and cats". No matter if we said "hunter" or "earthquake", EVERYONE ran! Hahahahah... Well, the main objective was to have fun! And they did!!

After the lesson, we started cutting out paper sun, paper clouds, paper moon and folded stars. All these were for the lesson the day after next for the kids to make cards for illustration of morning, afternoon, evening and night.
